Finding a Better Way to Do Business

Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll will discuss the introduction of municipal sustainability practices into his policymaking and at the same time address the challenges created by the “status-quo” of an entrenched workforce confronted with new “green” ideas.  Also discussed will be the transition to younger employees with a “natural” sense of energy efficiency lifestyles and mindsets faced with outdated systems not prepared for today’s climate protection priorities within the municipal workforce.

Also, there will be a discussion on The Amos Project which is a commercial space located in downtown Syracuse created to support the emergence of the Central Upstate Region as a global leader in green technologies and sustainability solutions.  The strategy is to showcase all of the area’s significant resources – educational institutions, research centers, innovative ground breaking projects, governmental initiatives - in one physical space using state of the art  multi media audio and video presentations and interactive kiosks.   The goal is to form a strong collective message targeted at creating significant economic growth by attracting investment from leading renewable energy and environmental systems companies.  Key to this effort will be a message targeted to area college and university students that focuses on job opportunities across the region in the Green/Clean technology sector.
