CNYWorks, OCM BOCES, and Partners for Education and Business are looking for a few good companies to support the Businesses for Youth Initiative. The goal of Businesses for Youth is to find employment for young adults in the private sector in Central New York. These young adults are 17 to 21 years old and are chosen for the Businesses for Youth Program. on the basis of their acquired skills and previous performance in CNYWorks youth programs. They are highly motivated and eager to work.

Here is how the program works:

  • Employers identify their job openings, set their own wage rates and provide a brief description of duties.
  • The program is an ongoing, year-round program.  Jobs may be temporary (summer), part-time or full-time.
  • The program assigns an employment specialist to work directly with the company throughout the process.
  • This point person screens appropriate candidates from the CNYWorks database to insure a good match before referring the candidate to the company.
  • The company conducts interviews and hires the candidate that best suits the job.
  • The employment specialist follows up as needed to provide support to both the employer and the young adult.

There are many advantages for participating employers, including assistance in finding competent entry-level workers, an opportunity to invest in today's youth, and the opportunity to help all of us in Central New York forge a brighter future.

Many local employers have already announced their support of the program, but more are still needed. We hope that many of you can also help to support this important community initiative.
