2020: The Most Challenging Year (1.5 credits) 2020 ha s been a year like no other. In this session, we will review the events of 2020 from a human resources lens. We will touch on the major legal develo pments as well as those on the horizon, from the lasting impacts of COVID-1 9 (i.e., new leave laws, downsizings, remote work and reasonable accommodat ion) to more ordinary but also new and significant lawmaking, including the New York Paid Sick Leave law. After the presentation we will draw names to be entered into the s eries raffle drawings. Prize winners will be drawn at the conclusion of the series. She represent s colleges and universities in Office for Civil Rights (OCR) investigations and in federal and New York state court litigation.Laura regularly defends organizations in New York State and federal courts, as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the New York State Division of Human Righ ts. She also represents clients in arbitrations and mediations, negotiates collective bargaining agreements, and advises clients with respect to labor relations issues. In addition to providing in-house legal training, Laura is a frequent lect urer. She has also authored and co-authored articles on a range of legal to pics. Laura has been named to a national team of educational instructors fo r the National Center for Campus Public Safety's Trauma - Informed Sexual A ssault Investigation and Adjudication Educational Program. For five years, Laura served as Go vernor Andrew Cuomo’s appointee as Chair of the Fourth Department Judicial Screening Committee and a member of the Governor's State Judicial Screening Committee. These Committees evaluate the qualifications of judicial candid ates and make recommendations to the Governor with respect to which candida tes are highly qualified to hold judicial positions.
