JULIA DAY  - In September 2005, Julia Day was appointed Regional Director of the Rochester-Syracuse Office for the New York State Division of Human Rights. Ms. Day joined the agency in 1978 as an investigator, later serving as supervising investigator. Prior to joining the Division she was a radio news reporter and broadcaster, primarily at WDKX radio, where she served as News Director.  She is a frequent speaker for community groups and college classes on issues relating to discrimination and the Human Rights Law, and has often conducted training on the Human Rights Law, investigation techniques, and conciliation.  She serves on the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Rochester, is a community mediator for Rochester Center for Dispute Settlement, is the Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Rush Public Library, and serves on the Town of Rush Conservation Board.  Ms. Day holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Rochester.


Ben Shaw - Benjamin Shaw joined the Department of Labor in January of 2009 as a Senior Attorney and became an Associate Attorney in the spring of 2012.  As Associate Counsel, Mr. Shaw handles Labor Standards and Public Employment Safety and Health matters. Prior to his employment at the Department of Labor, Mr. Shaw was Counsel to the Commissioner of Social Services in Columbia County, and was an Assistant Public Defender in Schenectady County.  Mr. Shaw is a graduate of Albany Law School.   He also received a B.A. in Sociology from the State University of New York College at Geneseo.


Kristen E. Smith is a Labor and Employment Law attorney at Bond, Schoeneck & King who counsels and represents employers of varying sizes, both private and public sector on a wide range of matters, including employment policies and agreements, employee handbooks, wage and hour compliance, workplace harassment, wrongful discharge, employment discrimination, collective bargaining and unfair labor practices. She regularly
represents employers in defending claims brought in state and federal court as well as state and federal agencies under various labor and employment laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in
Eployment Act (ADEA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), the New York State Public Employees Fair Employment Act (Taylor Law), the New York State Human Rights Law (NYSHRL) and the New York Labor Law.
Prior to law school, Ms. Smith worked in human resource management for several large firms, including Exelon Corporation (public utility) and Bose Corporation (consumer and automotive electronics).


Bill Ranous, SPHR, Bill is the Director of HR Services at MACNY.  With over ten years of experience working in Human Resources Bill has held positions in both manufacturing and corporate office environments.  He earned his Bachelors of Science in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management from Le Moyne College.  His experience includes consulting and training for businesses in Upstate New York including ConMed, Chobani, Otis Technology, ESCO Turbine Technology, Marquardt Switches, BorgWarner Morse TEC, SRCTec, Briggs & Stratton Power Products, CPS & Professionals Inc., and Daimler Buses to name a few.  In his role at MACNY he consults on Affirmative Action Plans, designs and implements compensation systems, and manages the HR Hotline.  Bill oversees MACNY’s full line of HR support services for its membership.
