College Background
The College of Veterinary Medicine, part of the State University of New York at Cornell University, is located on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York in the heart of the Finger Lakes region.  Established by an act of the state legislature in 1894, today the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell is one of 28 veterinary colleges and schools in the United States and one of only three in the Northeast.  With more than 5,000 graduates, the college is recognized internationally as a leader in public health, biomedical research, animal medicine, veterinary medical education.  Its mission is to advance animal and human health through education, research, and public service. Our teaching hospital is comprised of a team of board certified veterinarians, residents, interns and licensed veterinary technicians that performs cutting edge veterinary medicine. In addition, our Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University is one of the most comprehensive veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the country, receiving over 150,000 submissions per year that generate over 1 million individual tests a year, serving over 5,000 registered veterinary practices or organizations from all 50 states of the United States and several foreign countries.

Key Deliverables

In a team-oriented, customer service focused environment you will deliver human resource support for non-academic staff, faculty and academic personnel, as well as UAW staff.  Some specific tasks will include:

  • Supporting the recruitment and retention of highly qualified and diverse staff
  • Serving as an advisor and trusted counselor to administrators, directors, department chairs, supervisors and other staff on HR policies and procedures
  • Partnering with the HR Director and college leadership to achieve goals set forth in the Toward New Destinations diversity initiatives for the College of Veterinary Medicine.

 

Core Competencies

We seek a self-starter with outstanding communication skills who has a history of building and maintaining trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.  Specifically we are looking for the following experience:

  • 2-3 years of proven experience in recruiting/outreach, conflict resolution/mediation, and human resource generalist consulting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations (or related field), Master’s degree preferred
  • PHR/SPHR certification or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Development of successful recruitment and retention strategies across a wide variety of job families and position classifications and demographics.
  • Interpretation and implementation of conflict resolution strategies, performance management, including disciplinary actions and supervisory consultations.
  • Proven record of providing outstanding customer service
