Labor Relations Functional Lead

The Office of Human Resources seeks a Labor Relations Functional Lead. Syracuse University has four bargaining units across campus serving Part-time Instructors and employees in Parking Services, the Department of Public Safety, Physical Plant, FixIt, and Food Services.

The Functional Lead will serve as the University’s lead spokesperson during collective bargaining and arbitrations, as well as, provide guidance to supervisors. Foster and cultivate effective relationships with University representatives and bargaining unit representatives in joint labor/management initiatives projects and forums. Provide advice, counsel and training for front line supervisors and managers regarding emerging issues, HR policy, benefits and compensation. Council staff to administer and interpret bargaining unit contract provisions consistently.

Provide advice and counsel on contract language and application. Counsel management staff on progressive discipline processes ensuring thorough investigation, objectivity and consistency with established practices. Provide advice and counsel to bargaining unit employees seeking confidential support.

Provide staffing support, including administration of collective bargaining processes and online recruitment processes. Recruitment functions will exist for openings in the assigned bargaining unit areas and other departments as assigned, including exempt, non-exempt and bargaining unit openings.

A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Labor Relations or related field. 5-7 years’ experience in labor relations. Background in labor and/or employee relations, and staffing desirable.
