Becoming a Totally Responsible Leader: Serving and Empowering Others

Presented by: Mary Stone

All are welcome to this program!  Along with Human Resources professionals, this program is great for company leadership, including supervisors and managers.

HR professionals seek to bring out the best in others, uphold the corporate culture and organizational values, and lead by example. This workshop explores the essential qualities of leadership. The workshop is taught using a variety of cutting edge techniques: a powerful process of self-awareness building exercises, short lecturettes, role-play exercises, small group discussions, and written exercises to help develop personal insights and strategic plans (100+ page workbook supplied).

Learning objectives include:

  • How to empower others by holding them accountable for their negative behaviors and attitudes thus contributing to an organizational culture of responsibility.
  • How to effectively manage your emotions and develop empathy, and empower others to do the same; skills at the core of emotional intelligence.
  • How to identify and eliminate the victim mentality in oneself and help others to do the same.
  • How to Reverse the Flow by turning negative emotions into positive actions by focusing on serving and empowering those whom you lead.
  • Improve the ability to both give and receive feedback. See feedback as a gift, without being victimized by it, and overcome fears that prevent delivering feedback, especially when that feedback is constructive (often perceived as negative.)
  • Develop the courage to lead change, manage complexity, and inspire those who follow; tools of servant leadership.
  • Improve organizational effectiveness by reducing "group victim mentality," the destructive thinking in which different functions/departments/divisions of an organization blame and criticize other functions/departments/divisions.
  • Remain focused on meaning, purpose, and organizational values. Help others learn to do the same.

This nationally renowned training program is used in companies such as ESPN, America Express, Unilever Home and Personal Care, Humana, numerous YMCA's and hospitals throughout the country, and many more. In those companies, the training has been used to facilitate organizational change, drive employee engagement, and strengthen leadership. This Totally Responsible Leader workshop combines the eight key learning objectives above and focuses them to help the Human Resource professional by adding to the SPHR body of knowledge in the following areas:  01 Strategic Mgmt -  Developing, contributing to and supporting the organizations' mission, vision, values, strategic goals and objectives, managing organizational change, facilitating the development and communication of the organization's core values and behaviors, and reinforcing those values and behavioral expectations through modeling, communication, and coaching. TRP training has a strong emphasis on the value of the individual contributor in leading organizational values.

This program supports HRD 03, as it is a training program around leadership skills (especially emotional intelligence) and leadership development, organizational development, and it involves mentoring and executive coaching. This program supports Employee and Labor Relations as it helps leaders evaluate relationships between employer and employee and facilitate those relationships to ensure needs are met on both sides in pursuit of organizational goals, objectives, and values. The program empowers employers and employees through feedback, improved communication, and a continued focus on a positive organizational culture. The program helps reduce "group victim mentality," and fosters positive, proactive communication strategies for remaining union-free in non-organized locations. The program also supports 06 Risk Management by developing stronger communication skills and strategies for the HR professional, motivation concepts and applications, and leadership concepts and applications.
