HR Generalist - ShoreGroup, Inc. (Syracuse)

The HR Generalist will report to the HR Manager and work in conjunction with the Talent Acquisition Specialists and Payroll/Benefits staff in all phases of human resources services to support a geographically dispersed workforce of 420 employees. The HR Generalist will report into the Syracuse, NY office and will be responsible for supporting the workforce in this location.   The incumbent will provide new hire orientation and onboarding, as well as support the management team in staffing and employee relations issues.  The HR Generalist will also work with the management team to ensure that employee annual performance appraisals are prepared in a timely manner and that the appropriate compensation action is taken. Candidate must be highly organized, with strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills with a sense of urgency to work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Duties and/or Requirements:

The HR Generalist is responsible for new hire onboarding:

  • Coordination with hiring managers to effectively onboard employees, including
  • Internal notification of MIS department regarding new hire requirements as well as notify other internal parties
  • Conduct reference checks for all new hires and verification of employment details with past employers
  • Onboarding/orientation of new hires will include: review of ShoreGroup Employee Handbook and policies and procedures; benefits/payroll, and leave accrual overview.  Overview of org chart and reporting relationships and more particularly as they relate to the employee’s department; processing expense reimbursement reports.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping of all personnel files
  • Ensure that all mandatory documents are on file for new hires, including approved requisition; signed offer letter; I-9 Employment Verification; Emergency Contact Information, and job description.

The HR Generalist also has benefits-related responsibilities:

  • Review with each new hire their eligibility for benefits, including annual leave entitlement, health/dental/vision/DBL/LTD/life insurance and 401K enrollment.
  • Review with new employees signing into ADP Employee Portal and navigating the site to make updates.
  • Review with new employees signing into OpenAir and inputting their leave and reviewing timesheets and records.
  • General duties may include assisting with organizing employee events, ordering gifts/flowers for employee occasions, births, bereavements, etc.

 

Experience, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  •  Minimum of 3 – 5 years of comprehensive HR experience in a fast-paced corporate generalist environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in an HR or employee/labor relations related discipline
  • Experience with ADP payroll, HRIS database preferred
  • PHR and/or SPHR certifications preferred
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ERISA, ADA, EEO/AAP, OSHA and state and federal employment and labor guidelines
  • Knowledge of MS Office, with strong skills in Excel and Word
  • A work style that is proactive, flexible, organized and a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member, and must be able to multitask
  • Superior attention to detail and maintaining confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
