The Central New York Chapter of the Society for HR Management (CNYSHRM) is offering a virtual program for our members on November 4, 2021, titled “Engaging Your Diverse Workforce: Tips & Strategies for Inclusion in Your Organization”.

This session will include a panel of speakers sharing their expertise on creating an inclusive environment in the workplace in the areas of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability. Participants will leave with a better understanding of diversity in our world, as well as action items to implement in their own work environments.  

The following items will be covered in the program.

  1. Speaker definition of engagement and inclusion.
  2. Simple tips to enhance employee engagement and inclusion practices within organizations.
  3. How to be an ally for underrepresented groups.
  4. Strategy for engagement or inclusion that participants can implement in their organizations.

 Speakers:

Jeannie Gainsburg is an award-winning educational trainer and consultant in the field of LGBTQ+ inclusion and effective allyship. Formerly the Education Director at the Out Alliance in Rochester, N.Y., she is now the founder of Savvy Ally Action and author of the book, The Savvy Ally: A Guide for Becoming a Skilled LGBTQ+ Advocate. Jeannie has a BA in psychology from Brown University and an MA in social work and social research from Bryn Mawr College. She was under the impression that a citation was the result of driving too fast until January of 2019, when she received one from the New York State Assembly for Distinguished Educational & Human Rights Services for her work in promoting LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion. Her encouraging, passionate, and warm-hearted approach will surely jumpstart even the most tentative ally. Kristin Neagle, M.S., CRC, LMHC is Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She is the Director of Mental Health Community Based Services at AccessCNY.   Mental Health Community Based Services provide social, educational, and peer support to adults with mental health challenges, helping them to create and maintain meaningful and personally satisfying lives. Ms. Neagle also provides clinical supervision to the agency’s Children and Family Treatment and Support Services program, which provides psychosocial rehabilitation support to children, ages 5-21.  Ms. Neagle is also an adjunct evaluator at Empire State College.

Ayana Douglas is the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at Wegmans Food Markets. In her current role, Ayana partners with the Wegman family to advance the company’s strategic focus of remaining a Great Place to Work and Shop for All. Ayana started her Wegmans career in 1996 in Human Resources. She shifted to Store Operations in 1999 and held a variety of roles including Store Manager and District Manager/Vice President of Store Operations for the Maryland division. Ayana is an active member of her community, serving on the Advisory Board for the Hillside Work-Scholarship program since 2010 and as a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  Ayana is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she received her B.S. in Professional and Technical Communication.  Her most rewarding role, however, is being wife to Anthony, and mother to their two daughters, Alexia and Amaya.
