New HR Certification Program Recently Unveiled:

What Do I Do?

SHRM recently announced a new HR professional certification based on competencies.  This is not a replacement for the HRCI knowledge based certification that we have all known for over 30 years, but an additional one.  Both of these certifications will be available for anyone who chooses to pursue them.

The question is, which one (or both) is best for you?

That is a question that cannot be answered quite yet.  More information is needed, and that information has not yet been finalized and released. However, SHRM did recently release a presentation containing some information.  You can access that information here.  Additionally, a list of FAQ’s can be found here.

CNY SHRM will assist our membership through this period of change.  We will monitor any information released from National SHRM and HRCI regarding the changes, and communicate them to our membership.  For now, keep an eye on CNY SHRM, National SHRM and HRCI websites and email notifications to learn and understand the facts regarding the certifications.

PHR/SPHR Certification Class News

CNY SHRM along with LeMoyne College once again offered a Certification Preparation Class in the spring of 2014.  Over 10 students completed the class for the spring semester.  Several of the students have or will be taking the HRCI certification exam during this testing cycle (May1 – June 30).  Congratulations to all who completed the coursework and passed the certification exam.  You have all worked very hard and should be very proud of yourselves.

CNY SHRM will continue to partner with LeMoyne College to offer this class to our members. Contact Bonnie Sick, Chair of the Professional Development & College Relations Committee for more information, or visit LeMoyne’s Continuing Education website.

CNY SHRM Program and Event Sponsorships -

You Can Help!

CNY SHRM seeks to offer contemporary and informative programs on a variety of HR-related topics. To help support our pursuit of topics and offset venue expenses, our Chapter offers several levels of sponsorship. Your Marketing Committee promotes our offerings to a select list of providers of services and goods that are in the realm of employee benefits, compensation, advisory, and other products that are appropriate for the HR profession and your employees. You can view the Sponsorship Schedule of Benefits here.

Certain vendors are targeted for topic-specific programs, and all are prospected for our two major Chapter events in June and December.

One task you can help with is the identification and recruitment of these sponsor leads.  Do you know of organizations that would be interested in connecting with our community of HR professionals to showcase their products or services? Send your leads to Jim Jerose, Marketing Chairperson, at [email protected] for follow up.

We also ask that when you attend CNY SHRM events, that you take a moment to stop by the sponsor tables to greet and thank these generous sponsors for their support of our Chapter activities.  Doing so is so very helpful in making them feel welcome, and your interest in knowing more about their offerings makes their investment all the more worthwhile...and they may return for another occasion!

For sponsorship questions, leads, referrals, or just to know more about this key Chapter activity, ask Jim! He can also be reached at 447-1177.
